ESM 215
Landscape Ecology

Instructor: Frank W. Davis

Course Description

This course combines lectures, student-led discussions, field trips and computer exercises to provide graduate-level training in landscape ecology and its applications to environmental management. We examine the role of ecosystem spatial patterns in mass and energy transfers, disturbance regimes, population dynamics and community processes. The course also introduces students to the application of remote sensing, GIS, pattern analysis and spatially explicit models for landscape characterization and modeling.

The course consists of lectures (Mondays), discussions, computer labs (Wednesdays) and field trips (Fridays or Saturdays). Your grade will be based on class participation, exercises, and a term project. There is no final exam.
